THE LOW FODMAP DIET DOESN'T WORK. HERE'S WHY.
Trying to fix your IBS and wider gut health by going low FODMAP? Here's why it won't work.
1. Low FODMAP was never supposed to be a fix.
The Low FODMAP diet is an elimination diet. That's it.
It's not supposed to fix the root cause of your gut problems. It's more about avoidance.
The trouble with avoidance diets, is that when you're tired of avoiding, your symptoms will return.
LOW FODMAP IS AN ELIMINATION DIET, NOT A ROOT CAUSE FIX
2. There's no attention paid to healing.
My Way Uppers are all about healing the root cause problems that caused their lousy gut health in the first place.
When you heal the root cause problems, food sensitivities mostly, if not entirely, go away.
Low FODMAP doesn't directly tackle any actual healing of the gut with pro-gut proteins like Perfectly Pure, doesn't reinforce the requirement for "special" high vitamin and mineral foods like liver, or doesn't have any inherent stress lowering habits built into its framework.
Avoiding trigger foods is great, however everyone needs to go through a "healing" phase with their gut, to bring things back up to a standard where food sensitivity drops. For example, most Way Uppers are able to start enjoying dairy products after their healing phase.
GREAT GUT HEALTH MEANS COMMITTING TO A HEALING PHASE, RATHER THAN JUST AN AVOIDANCE PHASE
3. Low FODMAP was designed as a place to start - then it became commercialised.
The Low FODMAP diet started at Monash University in Australia. Universities like prestige and money, too.
Low FODMAP has largely become just another restrictive, short-term fad diet. Which is a real shame, because at My Way Up, we share many of the same fundamentals, like reducing your intake of super fermentable foods.
Restrictive diets are not the key to your long term success. Healing, learning, lifestyle, exercise and nutrition are. All diets that restrict quality foods are questionable.
